Subperiosteal Implants

Subperiosteal implants are a specialized, complex dental treatment designed as a last resort for patients who have severe bone loss in the jaw and cannot support traditional implants or undergo bone grafting. Instead of screwing into the jawbone, a custom-made metal framework is designed from 3D scans to sit directly on top of the remaining bone underneath the gum tissue, with small posts extending upward to anchor replacement teeth. Because this requires major surgery, precise digital planning, and carries higher risks of complications like infection or shifting, it is a highly specialized procedure handled by experienced oral surgeons or maxillofacial specialists when all standard options have been exhausted. 

• Who Needs Them: Individuals with severe jawbone loss who cannot support traditional implants or Zygomatic implants or undergo bone grafting due to advanced aging, long-term tooth loss, or disease.

• Role as a Last Resort: Used when standard restorative options and bone-building procedures are no longer viable or safe.

• Treatment Timeline: Treatment requires three separate visits. The first visit consists of providing temporary removable dentures and digital scanning for the impressions of the custom-made subperiosteal implants, which spans three full business days. The second visit is when the subperiosteal implants are surgically placed onto the jawbone, requiring two full business days. Lastly, the final visit spans five full business days, during which the implants are uncovered and impressions are taken for the final set of zirconium crowns for a full-mouth restoration. The total time frame for Subperiosteal implants is 5 months.
